Change Oil Indicator
CHANGE
OIL
The amber CHANGE
OL
light is activated by the
Engine Oil Life Moniitor
System. The engine
oil
Me
monitor system determind8
the condition of the engine
oil
and lets you know when
the oil should be changed.

Index.
It does thi$ by electronically receiving data from the
Powertrain Control Module. The data it receives
contains information about engine speed (revolutions
per &Ute), coolant temperature and vehicle speed. The
oil life monitor uses this

determine how much
the oil has degraded.
When
to
change your oil depend$
an
driving habits and
conditibns because these directly affect engine speed,
coolant temperature and vehick speed. Because of this,
the CHANGE
OIL
light many come on as early as
2,000
miles
or
less for harsh conditions.
If
the CHANGE
OIL
light stays on for
20
seconds or
more after you turn on tlie ignition, have the oil
changed.
After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset.
With the ignition key
in
the
kUN
position, but the
engine
off,
fuiiy push and release the accelerator pedal
three times within five seconds. The CHANGE
OIL
light will flash two times to confim you have reset the
system.
If
the CHANGE
OIL
light comes on and stays
on for five seconds, it did not reset. You’ll need to reset
the system again.
Battery Light
When you
turn
the key to
RUN
or
START,
this red
light will come on briefly,
to show that your alternator
and battery charging
systems are working.
